Kite Derby 2009 Update - 2/12/09 - 5:00pm

Recent warm weather has reduced the snow and ice conditions at the Derby event site, but it has taken a turn colder and we still hope to salvage part of the weekend.  As of this afternoon conditions were still on the slushy side, but should firm up tonight and tomorrow.  

Current conditions on South Lake Leelanau:  8-18”+ of ice with slush in most places, there is 1/4 of snow on top of the ice.  New snow is slowly falling and we hope to have a couple inches of snow on top of the ice by the end of the weekend. 

The wind forecast is also on the light side, but with the hard ice conditions it should still be enough to kite.  Winds look to build going in to Sunday and Monday.

Races will still be held if possible, but it will be more of an exhibition to test the race concept and get it polished up.  Sign up at http://www.kiteus.com/racing to stay up with the latest kite racing developments.

Demos: The H2O Crew will have the new Eclipse Kima and Nano’s out along with the Mayhem from Caution.  We will reschedule the factory Reps for another Demo weekend.

Parties:  The large kite bash for Saturday night has been canceled due to low projected turnout.  We still will rally up the group of kiters and head out for some fun, plans will be made in the parking lot after kiting on Saturday.  If its not windy a impromptu BBQ might break out in the parking lot.
